|
|
I want to get rid of the frames that came with the nuc. They are currently the bulk of my brood area and I don't want to interupt the bee raising that I hope is going on. When is a good time to move these to the back of the hive so that the rest of the larva can emerge and then I can pull the frames?
I'm in north Georgia and I'm not sure what time of year they slow down on raising young and what weather factors will drive this.
Also, is there a better way to remove these than the one I suggested?
Thanks,

One at a time
Right Now
Makesure they are turned upsidedown so the queen does not lay in them again. _________________ Gary

What do you mean by upside down? Do you mean the cells should be pointing earthward and skyward instead of perpendicular to gravity?
Thanks. _________________ ------------

| Imagine taking a picture off your wall, rotating it in your hands like a steering wheel and hanging it back up when the image is upside down. That's what you want to do with your comb. If you rotate a comb 180° in the plane of the comb, the queen will stop laying in it. |

Right on. and if the frame does not fit cut the comb out first, don't forget to clip the wires or you'll end up with a mess. _________________ Gary

BING!!
ok it just dawned on me as to WHY you turn the combs upside down!.. it's because the cells are made with a slight downward angle (~10 degrees?) and if upside down the cells are then angling DOWN -the queens doesn't like it and I bet eggs and such wouldn't stay in easily either...
oh please tell me I guessed right!  _________________ Forward into the past;

Sounds good. I thought you meant the 180 but it didn't make sense either so I figured I had to be wrong.
