Hi Folks
I have been asked by an outdoor education centre if I would be interested in putting together a beekeeping course for them. I have said that if I did it would be based around top bar hive beekeeping and they are happy with that.
I am just trying to decide if there is time to get information out for something this year or to go with next year now. Just as a straw pole is there any interests in courses in this location? |

I've seen most interest from April to October. Potential beekeepers seem to hibernate...😀
Good luck. |

I think I will perhaps look at doing a one day in the first instance in mid-august. I don't think this will clash with anyone elses' courses.
In the future, there is the option for doing residential at this centre with both dorms and camping available. |

Yes I would be interested. Great to meet up with like minded people and I'm keen to learn, I'm also fairly local being in Hartlepool.

I am trying to lock in the 13th August. It is just whether it is too short notice for booking. I would really like to get it going though. I already have the content shorted so it is just the booking now. Quite excited. |

Conserving wild bees
Research suggests that bumble bee boxes have a very low success rate in actually attracting bees into them. We find that if you create an environment where first of all you can attract mice inside, such as a pile of stones, a drystone wall, paving slabs with intentionally made cavities underneath, this will increase the success rate.
Most bumble bee species need a dry space about the size a football, with a narrow entrance tunnel approximately 2cm in diameter and 20 cm long. Most species nest underground along the base of a linear feature such as a hedge or wall. Sites need to be sheltered and out of direct sunlight.
There is a spectacular display of wild bee hotels here
