Hi all..
I am by no means an expert, but i do know the basics of bee caring and i own a topbar made to phils specs, and i also have old langstroth and national and commercial beehives i have also borrowed a ware hive from a lovely man who runs sustainable beekeeping meets every quarter in london. ... well I will be showing these hives along with doing a talk at THE GREEN GATHERING FESTIVAL (i will be in the permaculture section) IN CHEPSTOW 2nd to 5th August. .. i have 4 spots and in one i will be showing the film more than honey with a q and a session... anyone who has a ticket for the GG is welcom to join my talk to lend thier support.... for those interested the bee caring talk and demonstration of hives went very well...we kept getting stopped and asked questions for the whole weekend..

Conserving wild bees

Research suggests that bumble bee boxes have a very low success rate in actually attracting bees into them. We find that if you create an environment where first of all you can attract mice inside, such as a pile of stones, a drystone wall, paving slabs with intentionally made cavities underneath, this will increase the success rate.

Most bumble bee species need a dry space about the size a football, with a narrow entrance tunnel approximately 2cm in diameter and 20 cm long. Most species nest underground along the base of a linear feature such as a hedge or wall. Sites need to be sheltered and out of direct sunlight.
