|

I have just visited a blog I was attempting to translate on Oscar's Spanish site, The blog is not there and instead there was a notice written by him and headed 'Notification of retirement for personal and health reasons'. It seems he has withdrawn ALL his material from the web. I just checked a video link on the next thread down here and it gives the same page. Strange. I am returning to the notice to try and get more sense out of it. |

Below is a quick translation of the whole open letter, my Spanish is not that brilliant so I may have missed something but I think the gist is there.
Teresa
Dearest fellow wayfarers,
Since I began my journeys around Latin America, and right up
till now I have had the opportunity to meet many magnificent
people.
There have been thousands of miles, many countries, hearts,
many faces, impressions, dreams, the memory of which
overwhelms my heart.
All this odyssey has been possible thanks to those marvellous
winged beings which we call bees, with whom I have been
profoundly in love and attracted to for decades...but it is
now time for deep reflexion, reflexion arising after
beginning my journeying in Europe and specifically, Spain,
and after achieving personal balance (?! of the three courses
I have to date been able to produce in this marvellous
country.
As a result, I am afraid I can no longer continue on, as was
my initial objective, for various important reasons. For one
thing, the movement which I am generating through my great
passion does not allow people to glimpse the clear sky, the
simple, loving message which underlies the proposal which I
have brought to them and which should be the essential
overriding message. For another, I am becoming too much the
main protagonist and others are being left unacknowledged
(very loose translation).....
... it is now up to you all to demonstrate the truth of my
methods by experience...
This is why as from now I am disactivating all the internet
sites we have created, all the videos and teaching materials,
including my PermApicultura manual which will cease to be on
sale as from now.
There are many people all round the world who I am confident
will be capable of showing that bees are bees and know how to
be, even though we try and show them better (again, loose!).
So I say goodbye to you all, wishing you the best and thanks
for giving me the chance to know you and to share my dream
and my passion with you all.
THANK YOU FOR THAT. With huge appreciation and good wishes.
Oscar Perone |

Well... that is what it seems to say... all of the websites, including the English site, are gone and that seems to be it as far as he is concerned.

This is a real shock ...just when I was really beginning to understand his ideas about low interference bee keeping ...We will be looking to you Andy to pass on news and results from the work you are doing in his style of hive ....

Yeah I can too, it's an obvious way of removing stress when it's all a bit much.
One thing I will say is that it's a shame to lose his sites; I've been thinking about setting up a beekeeping wiki for some time, which might help when things like this happen. |

Interesting development. All the best to Mr Prone.
It has been nice to have enough of a glimpse at Oscars philosophy and methods to proceed on my own, in the same general direction with some of my hives.
And Sir David, yes - on the plans for a couple of Mark 2 hives. Need to test to see what works in our region with our bees. _________________ Enjoy the day. |

Interesting development. If I were him, I would leave the info and web sites till they die on the net. I wonder who made him angry?
Maybe Clare (AmericaLibre) can say something about this development. |

I think all the details are on the video taken at the last conference, which is still available on you tube...'a conversation about the perone hive'....it is a bit long but if you can sit through it do so and if there are any questions PM me. I am in contact with Claire and she is trying to find out more.
I am a bit busy at present but will write down the instructions and put them up as soon as I can unless someone beats me to it....there are plenty of Perone mk2 triers out there. Just to add I am considering a small but significant modification...which is to compromise after what the bee inspector said...and I am only considering it at the moment, which would be to replace the three most central top bars with three large frames with spales. It is just an idea at the moment...the middle frame could be extracted for inspection if absolutely necessary..the rest of the bee area would be allowed to get on with whatever. There would be two smaller comb grids either side instead of one big one.... I know others have done the whole box with frames but I would not wish to go that far...

At first I was surprised to hear about Oscar's decision, but then after some reflection on my part I realized it's not that surprising at all. I think Oscar is wise to say "This is becoming too much about me and Perone method" and it's good that he's encouraging people to work through & discover the principles of good beekeeping on their own, instead of them hopping from method to method.
Best of wishes to Oscar, and I hope this decision gives you more time with the bees! |

Just because Oscar has withdrawn his book from sale does NOT mean he has relinquished his copyright. Please do not offer to hand out copyright material to all comers without permission from the author. |

Are you referring to the PDF that was made available by PeroneHive.com?
It's still available: http://peronehive.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/Making-a-Perone-Hive.pdf
It's also available here: http://www.scribd.com/doc/106382528/Making-a-Perone-Hive |

Yes, that pdf was the free one, the permapiculture manual has never been made available in English I think. |

Sorry Phil
I did NOT infringe on Mr Parone's copyrights, The material I have was/is given free and is shared free and is under no copyright to my knowledge.
Thanks Nick for the links that should relieve some suspicion/doubt.
Thanks GürkanYeniçeri as well. |

I'm very sorry, but one does not need to write copyright on a publication to have it copyrighted.
As a fact none should copy any work without authorization. On Oscar Perone work you find his name... which is enough to preserve his right about it. The only case where you can safely copy & distribute a text is where they are COPY LEFT... like linux...
But I'm not sure he is real stopping to work on his hives:
see this cover found on his website :
Anything is possible including a simple cash problem.... |

I can understand wanting to retire and not deal with the critics but why pull all your material off the web that just doesn't make any sense. People are wanting to try it experiment with it and build on it... I hate when people do things like this. Oh well at least it is out there now...
Here is a quick diagram to go with the PDF for the MK II
