Hi Patrick,
Can you explain?
friendly greetings

Yes, Adriaan, thanks for asking.
Here's video footage of the hive that rarely has any hive beetles. I don't know for sure yet if it's the entrance/hive design or their genetics.

Very nice progression there Patrick. I have also found that there is little to none attachment of comb in vertical sides of the 'box'... yet to see(here) what the end game is when comb building is done and the colony is at size.
On two fronts your A-Hive is defying known 'hazards' in startup (a) the sheer expanse of the void and (b) the absence of any SHB activity.
Worthy of note is that
Also see how the warm side (V) cold side concept is working in the comb build? What I saw of the long shot shows a definite build from the wall on the LH side to the RH side - the side against the house and so cooler that the LH side, I presume??
And yessss.. what a strong thriving colony!
Well Done...ALL

Since most of you are probably shut down for the winter, I figured you'd all enjoy this orientation flight I filmed in my back yard today in Florida.

Not here Patrick ... we are having an early wet season
so things will slow down from "hectic" shortly, but for now here is video of a startup around 5 weeks old... the video taken around the 7thNov2017. The frames are
are part of starters for my next topbar colony.

Thanks for that. Lovely to see your girls so active. Surprisingly we have been extremely lucky to have mild weather right through the autumn so far and so I am still able to enjoy watching our my own bees foraging and even some orientation flights still, although not to that extent.
I'm curious as to the purpose of the pipe elbow screwed onto the side of the hive.... Is it some sort of feeding system?
Regards

I'm glad to hear your mild weather is hanging on a little bit longer.
Regarding the pipe, it was a failed attempt at keeping hive beetles out. But accidentally, I've found out that the aquarium hive with the cover has been a magnificent shield against hive beetles.
