Syngenta are appealing against the ban on neonicitinoids in the UK and it will be decided in parliament next Tuesday.
I have just signed a petition to be sent to Cameron against the appeal being passed.
The website being run by 38 degrees is below. The more signatures they get the better the chance of getting it overturned.

I can't sign this because I don't live in the UK. I'm blown away by the response though. I checked the signatures 15 minutes ago, and again just now, and there were 952 new signees, in 900 seconds!
It's almost enough to restore my faith in humanity.

These petitions are regularly ignored or, at best, paid the merest of lip service during parliamentary time. This is a country, remember, where two million people marching on the streets of London to protest against an illegal war were totally ignored by the state. They don't care what we think. These people don't work for us, they work for the big corporations who set them up with nice fat silent board membership positions when they leave office and the only time they ever act on the basis of popular demand is if that demand happens to coincide with their own interests. Failing that, the only thing they'll ever understand is a wall against their backs.
Sorry. Rant over. |

Good news!! Syngenta have dropped their appeal for now.
The petition organisers have e mailed me to confirm a victory for our bees this year.
They believe Syngenta will try to overturn the ban again next year so we have time to organise another big protest.

Conserving wild bees
Research suggests that bumble bee boxes have a very low success rate in actually attracting bees into them. We find that if you create an environment where first of all you can attract mice inside, such as a pile of stones, a drystone wall, paving slabs with intentionally made cavities underneath, this will increase the success rate.
Most bumble bee species need a dry space about the size a football, with a narrow entrance tunnel approximately 2cm in diameter and 20 cm long. Most species nest underground along the base of a linear feature such as a hedge or wall. Sites need to be sheltered and out of direct sunlight.
There is a spectacular display of wild bee hotels here
